Sharing the Brightness in our world

Sharing the Brightness in our world

Let brotherly love continue.  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.  Hebrews 13:1-2

We are living in awful times.  Newspaper headlines proclaim cynicism and despair.  Children forget to laugh; people sleep under plastic garbage bags and carry their world in shopping carts.  Random acts of violence, from drive-by shootings to child abuse, litter our world.
We are moving away from each other, but it doesn't have to be that way.  Imagine what would happen if there were outbreaks of kindness in the world, if everybody did one nice thing for another person on a daily basis.

We need to learn to practice kindness.  Every hand we extend, every act of kindness we commit, sends a ripple out into the world that is magnified by every life it encounters.  Acts of kindness can be little sweet or grand lovely things we do from our hearts for no reason at all.  When you spontaneously give your lunch to the begger who makes music on the corner, when you unexpectedly put coins in someone else's parking meter because you see the red expired signaling to a meter maid, or when you give the old woman who lives next door that bunch of carnations you bought for your table, you are doing what the best of your human soul invites you to do.

Why not try some acts of kindness today?  You will be changed and that hard shell around your heart will begin to break.  And don't forget to reflect on those acts of kindness you have received.Sharon Therese Spencer
